Elliptical Construction

Elliptical Constraction adalah Kalimat Gabungan / Majemuk Setara.


1. Sejajar / Setara : "And"

• Positif : So + Auxiliary Verbs + Subject atau Subject + Auxiliary Verbs + too
• Negatif : Neither + Auxiliary Verbs (+) + Subj. atau Subj. + Auxiliary Verbs (-) + either

example:

(+) Ali is a student   ~> Ali is a student and ~> So am I.

(+) I am a student                                           ~> I am too.

(+) Lia likes cat   ~> Lia likes cat and ~> So does Nita. 

(+) Nita likes cat                                    ~> Nita does too.

 ~>  does berasal dari kata likes yang kalau dipecah menjadi does + like.

(-) My father doesn't like meatball ~> My Father doesn't like meatball  and ~> Neither do I.

(-) I don't like meatball                                                                                        ~> I don't either.

 * Ingat! kalau negatif pada Neither aux-nya (+), sedangkan either aux-nya (-).

(-) Aming isn't a student ~> Aming isn't a student  and~> Neither are we.

(-) We aren't student                                                        ~> We aren't either.

2. Berlawanan : "But / While"

• (+) + But / While + (-)
• (-) + But / While + (+)

example:

(+) I play football

(-) Narto doesn't play football

   ~> I play football but/while Narto doesn't.

   ~> Narto doesn't play football but/while I do.
